Deprecation of Number Level Routing on Telnyx - Action Required by 1st September 2023
What is Number Level Routing?
Number Level Routing is a feature that allows users to configure routing settings on individual phone numbers separately from the routing settings on the connection to which the number belongs.
Where is number level routing configured?
Number level routing was introduced in the general section of your account.
This toggle, when enabled, allowed you to control routing settings at the number level settings instead of what was defined at the connection or application level. This applied only to new numbers purchased and configured after this setting is enabled. All existing numbers would not have routing level settings applied at the number level unless you manually set them in the number settings.
After the deprecation, you will no longer be able to configure Number Level Routing for your phone numbers. Instead, all routing configurations will be automatically updated based on the routing settings of the connection to which the number is assigned. This change has been implemented to simplify the configuration process, reduce maintenance overhead, and ensure smoother call routing for our valued customers.
As such, we recommend that you disable the number level routing configuration on your account so new numbers purchased and configured will always maintain the settings defined at the connection level.
Number Level Routing is being phased out in favor of Connection Level Routing, which provides a simpler and more stable way of routing inbound calls.
This type of routing has been long replaced by Connection Level Routing, which provides a simpler and more stable way of routing inbound calls.
Those numbers that are still using Number Level Routing can be “upgraded” by following the process below.
How to Change Number Level Routing to Connection Level Routing for your numbers:
Log in to your Telnyx portal at https://portal.telnyx.com.
Navigate to the "My Numbers" page.
For each phone number, select Action “Edit Number’
Select the "Voice" tab
Search for “Number Routing” option
If Number Level Routing is disabled, nothing needs to be done
If Number Level Routing is enabled you can upgrade the configuration to use Connection Level Routing
Action Required by 1st September:
To ensure a seamless transition to the new behavior, we kindly ask you to disable Number Level Routing for all your phone numbers.
Number Level Routing and Load Balancing
Most customers used our Number Level Routing feature for Load balancing purposes. In such cases, we recommend implementing Round Robin routing instead. You can read more about Round Robin routing here:
