How to configure your Cisco SPA112 ATA with Telnyx

Our focus in this article is to achieve the connection between your Cisco SPA112 ATA, and our Mission Control Portal.

Before we begin make sure:
1 you have a number in your account.
2 you have configured a connection.
3 you have assigned that number to the connection.
4 you have configured an outbound profile.
5 you have assigned your connection to the outbound profile.

The Cisco SPA112 ATA, as well as other ATA, require you to have the inbound calls sent to the username configured on the device in the SIP settings. The easy way to set this up is just to have the phone number as the username of the trunk, unfortunately we are not able to allow the username of connections to be a phone number. But there's a simple solution for that, we can have the inbound calls sent to the alphanumeric username of the connection instead of the number.

To do that you need to do a simple change in the inbound settings of the connection:

Set the Number Format (DNIS) to SIP Username.

This will send the calls to your ATA with the username of the connection and your ATA will allow it since its the username it has configured.

Your trunk is now ready to go on our side! We can move forward with the
configurations on your Cisco SPA112 ATA:

1. Under the "Voice" tab go to the "SIP" sub tab, and modify as follows:

  • STUN Enable: Yes

  • STUN server:

  • STUN test enable: Yes

  • Click Submit

2. Under the "Quick Setup" tab add the following:

  • Proxy:

  • Display Name: your_DID (ie. 12245181471)*

  • User ID: your_user_name (ie. usernam12345) the same username from the connection on your portal.

  • Password: your_password (ie. nameabcpass) the same password from the connection on your portal.

  • Click Submit

*Some versions of the Cisco ATA software would send the Display Name in the registration, this is incorrect as our systems would think this is actually the username. If you are having issues registering with these settings remove the Display Name and leave it blank. You then need to configure a caller ID override on the outbound settings of your connection in the portal to make sure you send a valid Caller ID.

3. Note. For most applications your ATA will be behind a NAT. If this is the case you might need to configure your Lines as follows:

  • Under the "Voice" tab go to the "Line X" sub tab

  • Under NAT settings set the NAT Mapping Enable to yes

  • Under NAT settings set the NAT Keep Alive Enable to yes

4. Note. If you are looking to configure T.38 on your Cisco SPA 112 ATA configure as follows:

  • Under the  "Voice" tab go to the "Line X" sub tab

  • Under Audio Configuration set the "Fax Enable T38" to yes

  • Click Submit

Your Cisco SPA112 ATA should be ready to make and receive phone calls!
