3CX is a an open-standard, software-based PBX (private branch exchange) designed to be used with the SIP standard. 3CX enables your extensions to make calls via the public switched telephone network or via VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) services. 3CX is powerful, allowing your teams to work productively from anywhere, and almost any device. Secure and reliable, it can be set up on-prem or in the cloud.

1. Configure messaging in the 3CX portal.

  1. Open the 3CX Management Console.

  2. From the left-hand navigation, click Messaging.

  3. Click the +Add SMS button.

  4. From the Configure tab, fill out the Add SMS form with the following details (as the field names are large, this document will refer to the field number):

    1. 1. Give your integration a name that is meaningful to you

    2. 3. Paste your API v2 key. If you don't have one, please revisit the pre-requisites. If you have further issues, contact Telnyx support.

    3. 4. Follow the instructions in this step

    4. Click OK.

    5. Click Test to verify port-forwarding and certificate configuration.

  5. Click on the Route tab.

  6. Click the +Add button and provide the following:

    1. Number: Copy the number from your Telnyx portal. Ensure the number is in E.164 format without any spaces (ex: +123456789)

    2. Route inbound messages to: Assign an extension or queue to receive messages.

2. Choose who can send SMS messages

By default, no one can send SMS messages. This step will show you how to enable SMS messaging.

  1. Open the 3CX Management Console.

  2. From the left-hand navigation, click Extensions.

  3. From the General tab, find the Enable SMS section and select the extension(s) you want to be SMS-enabled.

That's it! You should now be ready to sent and receive SMS messages with 3CX through Telnyx.
